The Unified Testing Initiative Releases Java Verified Testing Services

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

The Unified Testing Initiative -- a global not-for-profit mobile application testing body - has announced the release of new Java Verified testing services for simple Java Platform, Micro Edition or Java ME applications.

Java ME is a widely deployed mobile runtime which is very popular among handset manufacturers. It powers about 3 billion phones used in more than 150 countries globally. The new Simple App testing criteria is capable of reducing time and money spent on testing many Java ME applications.
This allows developers to meet App Store and industry specifications as required for Java Verified certification.

"We recognize that there are many applications that do not need to be tested against the full range of Java Verified criteria," said Martin Wrigley, chair of Java Verified and director of developer services, Orange. "Many of the apps selling today within App Stores don't use network connectivity, or access consumer's information inside the device.  So, for applications that don't ask for such privileged access, we've cut down the set of Java Verified tests that need to be run, and therefore the costs."

According to official sources Java Verified organization has worked with all its test houses to update the testing criteria for simple app testing. Developers will be able to get these applications tested to the Java Verified standard and also signed with the Java verified certificate.

Also developers who are desirous of obtaining Java Verified accreditation will work with their preferred test house for establishing the proper level of testing for their application. Company sources further added that more details can be obtained about Simple App testing from Java Verified Web site.

Java Verified will be able to provide developers with testing and resources for delivering more high quality Java ME applications to more devices faster. The Java Verified management board includes representation from AT&T, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Oracle (News - Alert), Orange, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Vodafone.

According to UTI sources Java Verified membership is open to all organizations which are desirous of advancing high-quality mobile applications in a collaborative environment.
