Kontron Announces Cost-Effective, High-Performance Kontron Gigabit Ethernet Switch CP3923

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Recently, Kontron (News - Alert) announced Kontron Gigabit Ethernet Switch CP3923, the most recent member of the 3U CompactPCI (News - Alert) product suite for IPv4/IPv6 communication networks and network-centric applications.

Kontron CP3923 has a switch consisting of 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports which ensures high performance even in harsh environments and is cheaply available. The application is mainly intended for markets such as networking, transportation, aerospace, military and automation.

' The new 3U CompactPCI switch is designed to meet the growing demand for high performance IPv4/v6 Ethernet switching for rugged intra- and inter-system communications,' said Sandra Korsinek, product manager for 3U CompactPCI at Kontron. ' The extensive management capabilities of the Kontron CP3923 plus our configuration services for OEM applications reduce customers' hardware and software design efforts, thus minimizing costs and time-to-market' .

The Kontron Gigabit Ethernet Switch CP3923 is a completely managed Layer 2/3 Gigabit Ethernet switch which provides IPv4 routing and optional IPv6 routing along with complete management capabilities. It supports powerful CLI, Telnet, Web, and SNMP management interfaces to build up the complete set of protocols and parameters including Layer 2 and Layer 3 (IPv4/v6) protocols, Multicasting, QoS and Security. Kontron CP3923 supports ' Intelligent Platform Management' and hot-swap capabilities in order to increase reliability of rugged COTS applications by supporting Intelligent Platform Management and hot-swap capabilities.

To guarantee broadband flexibility and excellent connectivity capabilities for the base configuration (CP3923-8C), it supports eight GbE ports through RJ45 and eight GbE ports through rear I/O. The entire versions support eight GbE by means of rear I/O. A special Rear Transition Module helps to access 8x GbE ports which are routed to the rear.

The new Kontron CP3923 is compliant with the EN 50155 railway standard. It provides a wide range of operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Soldered components are used to guarantee resistance against shock and vibration hazards to the instrument.

The Kontron Embedded Network Technology offers combined advanced feature set and operational interfaces across multiple form factors which includes CompactPCI, VPX/OpenVPX, VME, MicroTCA (News - Alert), and ATCA. This facilitates OEMs to use their switching expertise again effectively to improve time-to-market, and total-cost-of-ownership. Customers can easily use, configure and operate Kontron Embedded Switches.
