Telepresence Provider BrightCom Wins 'Best of Show' at ITEXPO West 2009

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

BrightCom, a company that offers integrated telepresence and video conferencing solutions, recently received a Best in Show award for Best Onsite Product Launch during Technology Marketing Corporation’s INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference and EXPO West 2009.

The Huntington, Calif.-based company was recognized for its recently launched  line of telepresence conferencing solutions that integrate life-like communication of telepresence technology with instant collaboration for everyday operations.

The new line, called the L37, is a modular solution that offers a turnkey environment integrating immersive telepresence with Web conferencing functions. The modular telepresence workstation features a desk and backdrop. The L37 is part of BrightCom’s Lumina Telepresence line.

The six-seat L37 is also an affordable solution. Businesses and organizations can deploy the self-contained telepresence unit for approximately $100,000. Future Lumina models will be available by year end, including the L52 and the L65 for medium and large size telepresence suites.

Company officials unveiled the Lumina Telepresence (News - Alert) line as part of its exhibit at the show show below, which took place Sept. 1-3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

ITEXPO (News - Alert) officials said that BrightCom's L37 was unlike any other telepresence unit they had seen in the industry. Specifically, they highlighted the product’s unique and innovative design and its ability to help businesses with the experience of telepresence technology without the challenges of customizing an entire room.

“ITEXPO West 2009 was a great opportunity for BrightCom to launch Lumina Telepresence,” Bob McCandless, CEO of BrightCom, told TMCnet in an interview. “We were overjoyed to be honored with a Best in Show award and are looking forward to even greater success as we continue to release our integrated telepresence solutions.”

McCandless, who appears in a video at ITEXPO West accepting the award, said the Best in Show award helps companies recognize that BrightCom is one of the leading manufacturers in the telepresence industry.

“TMC’s (News - Alert) acknowledgement of our efforts and innovation for this approach in the L37 solution helps place us in the same playing field as our competitors including Tandberg, Polycom and LifeSize (News - Alert),” McCandless said.

Innovations such as BrightCom’s Lumina Telepresence will take telepresence technology to the next level by improving communication between people around the globe with natural environments and greater opportunities to share and collaborate on a wider variety of information, McCandless said.

“The L37 accomplishes this with its fully immersive workspace environment that places co-workers and partners around the same table with Web conferencing features for real-time exchange of information,” McCandless said of BrightCom’s new solution. “As BrightCom moves forward with Lumina, we will continue to drive integrated telepresence technology with even more enhanced levels of immersion. At the same time, Lumina will focus on instant and easy collaboration making the experience smooth and comfortable for everyday operations.”
