After taking a three year hiatus from the list of top intelligent communities in the world, Owatta, Canada, has been placed back as a top seven area by the Intelligent Community Forum, or “ICF,” in Hawaii.
“We are thrilled that Ottawa has been recognized by the ICF as one of the Top Seven Intelligent Communities of the Year,” said Larry O'Brien, Mayor of the City of Ottawa. “Our diverse technological expertise and world-class talent bode well for the future of Ottawa.”
Coincidentally, lead management and telemarketing software provider, VanillaSoft’s Canadian operation has been in the Owatta and Gatineau area for the past five years.
So, why was the Canadian location selected?
According to reports, the ICF selected Ottawa for its focus on education and start-ups, adding that the number of partnerships and programs in place are almost too many to count. Considered in that pack of successful companies is VanillaSoft, and the company's many professional endeavors.
“This is certainly an area in which Ottawa excels,” said Claude Haw, president and CEO, OCRI. “There are many examples of associations and companies working together with our educational institutions to ensure that our talent pipeline is filled with people who are prepared and excited about the potential of working in Ottawa’s knowledge-based community.”
In addition to recognizing the top communities in regards to the award, Ottawa’a endeavors to promote and develop young professional’s careers in the industry were clearly recognized for the award, as the theme of the competition was, “The Education Last Mile (News - Alert) – Closing the Gap from School to Work.”
“Ottawa is Canada's creative economy capital and today's announcement fully supports what we already know about our great city,” Haw said.
