Intervoice's Video Community Networks to Drive New Services for Mobile Users

TMCnet News

Intervoice, Inc., provider of converged voice and data solutions, today announced new capabilities at 3GSM World 2006 that will give carriers the ability to introduce a new generation of two-way interactive community-based mobile services to their portfolio of offerings. As another innovative capability of Omvia Media Exchange, the new Video Community Networks service from Intervoice will allow subscribers to interact with other consenting members through a flexible multi-media messaging platform.

One embodiment of Intervoice's Video Community Networks service, mobile video dating, will be demonstrated to visitors to 3GSM World 2006 on stand G21, Hall 2, Level 0.

Intervoice has achieved this by becoming the first to overcome the bandwidth issues previously holding back the delivery of a compelling video experience and by developing an easy-to-use user interface that will work in a mobile environment for both community building and trading applications. Working with core technology standards to support video, Intervoice has integrated all these capabilities into one common platform.

This unique capability is suited for delivering mobile services such as video dating, real estate house walk-through or car selling, or business community networking that not only rely on live voice and video calling but also deliver access to customised information, a requirement of delivering personalised consumer services.

"The application of Video Community Networks is limitless," said Ron Nieman, Intervoice Senior Vice President and General Manager, Network Strategic Market Unit. "The popularity of online services such as dating, peer-2-peer file sharing and trading environments such as eBay show consumers' appetite for personalised community-based services. To assure revenue growth, carriers need solutions that can drive ARPU and personalisation can help them boost subscriber usage, stickiness and revenue. Intervoice's Video Community Networks service will help deliver a new generation of mobile applications to fit this demand."

Mobile video is becoming a key driver for revenue, as operators and service providers are looking beyond traditional video-based services where subscribers merely submit a request to receive charged for video content. Video can be used at the heart of new service offerings, to support promotions or as an educational tool to show users how to use a service. According to industry analysts, In-Stat/MDR, by 2009, 22.3 million Americans alone will view mobile video, paying a total of $5.4 billion a year for the service -- that will account for almost 15 per cent of all wireless data revenues.

With Intervoice's Omvia Media Exchange, operators and providers can offer users an attractive blend of multimedia applications -- like voice navigated messaging, custom ringtones, email, images and video -- all from a single subscriber mailbox. Built around a powerful core known as the Home Zone, it provides comprehensive management of subscriber log-ins, profiles, contacts and greetings, as well as extensive Business Intelligence reporting. It is designed to maximise the useful life of existing infrastructure while also opening a standards-based pathway for future growth toward 3G IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services.

The new Video Community Networks service from Intervoice will be available as part of the Intervoice Omvia Media Exchange to carriers and services providers in 2006.
