When it comes to human to computer communications, many times speech technologies are discussed for their ability to make the communications process between the two easier and more natural.
One aspect of the process not discussed as often is the visual aspect. To make the communications even more life-like, not only does it make sense to have a voice that sounds natural and includes expressive, emotional capabilities but also to have a visual image of a face that makes it as though one is speaking to a human, takes computer-human communications to the next level.
In support of this latest move in digital technology as a new communication media, Activa Multimedia Digital provides among its systems and services for the audiovisual world, all-in-one interactive solution for digital TV.
Their iVAC (interactive Virtual Automatic Characters) product line offers automated characters with the ability to "automatically produce video for TV, Internet and any mobile device," a news release noted.
Now, with the inclusion of TTS capabilities from speech technology provider Loquendo, the virtual characters are able take information gained a database and then speak the information in a natural sounding, expressive voice and in a variety of languages.
The combination of an animated face with an expressive voice really takes human to computer interactions to the next level--further "humanizing" the communications experience and making these types of interactions more personable and pleasurable.
