Speech Recognition and Text to Speech Provider Loquendo Works With eXtrapola to Launch a Talking Newsletter for Italian Newspaper

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Called ‘Il Sole 24 ORE’, and better known as Italy’s best-selling and most popular business newspaper, eXtrapola, a company that monitors and analyzes online information, and Loquendo (News - Alert), a speech recognition and text to speech provider, have formed a partnership designed to launch an audio podcast of the ‘7:24’ newsletter.

Through the utilization of“AudioFlash24”, ‘Il Sole 24 ORE’ readers can relax and listen to a summary of the day’s most important news stories. This new service is completely free and is powered by Loquendo’s text-to-speech along with software from eXtrapola that can automatically summarize text.

According to a press release, the interactive newsletter provides another way for viewers to enjoy the news content and a new way for the paper to extend its reach to its readership, without ever having to actually pick up the newspaper. The 600,000 subscribers to the newsletter can now be continuously updated on the latest news through an email they will receive on a daily basis that provides them with the best news stories from the 24 ORE Group: an exclusive preview of the printed version, leading articles from the website, key editorials, in-depth magazine stories and the latest financial news from Radiocor, the release stated.

“We are grateful to Stefano Quintarelli and the Sole 24 Ore Group for giving us this opportunity to contribute to continuing innovations in the editorial line, extending access to digital content to a wider platform and readership - who will be able to stay in touch with the latest news from many different devices, whenever and wherever suits them,” says Paolo Pastorino, senior marketing & business development manager at Loquendo.

“By transforming the key contents from our website in speech, by means of innovative technologies,” says Stefano Quintarelli, director of the digital area at Sole 24 ORE, “we have begun a process of experimentation in managing content aimed at identifying new ways of interacting with our readership.”

“For us, the collaboration with Il Sole 24 ORE has been an important professional challenge,” says Stefano Marioni, eXtrapola president and co-founder. “It is a completely new system for circulating information online via talking news.”
