Subscribers to services from Canada's wireless and data communications provider Rogers Wireless will soon have an easier, quicker and more natural way of navigating, controlling and interacting with their mobile devices thanks to a partnership with Nuance (News - Alert) Communications to offer Nuance's Voice Control service on select devices.
Nuance Voice Control is a speech-enabled search and messaging service for mobiles. The solution responds directly to the increasing market demand for mobile search which is expected to reach more than $8 billion in 2008.
For Rogers Wireless subscribers with devices supporting these capabilities, it will be possible to search the Web for weather, stock quotes, sports scores or call a contact all using their voice. Users will also have the ability to create and send email or SMS messages as well as find businesses by saying something like, "Find Businesses, Overnight Shipping, near Jacksonville Fla.," or "Email Karen Smith, Subject: budget meeting. Body: The time has been changed to 2 p.m.," a recent news release noted.
According to the news release the complete solution will be available in May 2007 for a $6.00 monthly fee.
Nuance also announced recently the launch of Nuance Vocalizer for Mobile a new text-to-speech (TTS) solution to improve the natural sound and quality speech output on mobile handsets.
As well as the Mobile Music Service Package for Nuance Mobile Speech Platform which eliminates the need to text, or sift through long menus looking for a song of choice. This will help drive consumer spending on mobile music content due to the ease and simplicity with which mobile music content can be found.
