Covergence Unveils First Virtual Appliance SBC

By Brian Solomon, TMCnet Web Editor

Covergence (News - Alert) has announced the release of the CVA-50. It will be the first SBC delivered as a virtual appliance.

“Many organizations are looking to move beyond VoIP to unified communications, but the need for security, management and policy enforcement stands in their way,” said Covergence’s president and CEO Bob O’Neil.  “Some found relief when session border control moved from proprietary to commodity hardware, but many others with branch offices or smaller operations have been left waiting for the next price and convenience breakthrough.  That day has come with the CVA-50 virtual appliance.”

The CVA-50 will permit organizations to enforce policy along organizational or geographic boundaries. It is expected to allow them to enact policies reflecting security concerns, government regulations, business priorities and corporate codes.

Enabling enterprise branch offices and service providers servicing small to medium-sized businesses to deploy Covergence session management software as a pre-built, pre-configured, ready-to-run enterprise application, CVA-50 will be packaged with an operating system inside a virtual machine. Covergence customers will be able to run the session management software on any x86-hardware, thus making it easier to implement at multiple SMBs or branch offices.

The industry has been pushing convergence as one of the main motivators for moving to VoIP for years now. But enterprises have not been able to integrate their voice and data networks until recently. The Covergence Session Manager secures, controls and integrates traffic onto the WAN to give users substantial savings and the infrastructure needed to move to UC. The new CVA-50 allows organizations to easily and cost-effectively integrate all their branches.
