Aventa Credit Union Boosts Productivity, Cuts Costs with Sagem-Interstar's AXP-XMediusFAX FoIP Solution

By Patrick Barnard, Group Managing Editor, TMCnet

Aventa Credit Union, a chartered financial institution based in Colorado, is the latest company to benefit from the productivity-enhancing and cost-cutting features of Sagem-Interstar’s (News - Alert) AXP-XMediusFAX Fax over IP (FoIP) solution.

The company, which operates in a Cisco (News - Alert) network environment, is now getting even greater value out of its Cisco 2800 series routers, which it has deployed across three branches.

Completely interoperable with Cisco equipment, the AXP-XMediusFAX FoIP solution runs natively on Cisco routers. That means Aventa didn’t need to deploy a separate fax server at each branch location – thus significantly reducing the up-front capital investment needed to deploy a company-wide fax system.

Thanks to this “boardless” IP fax system, employees can send and receive IP faxes to and from any end point on the company network. Because the faxes are sent as email attachments, arriving in recipients’ inboxes, the system helps boost productivity by reducing the need for employees to get up and down from their desks in order to retrieve faxes. In this regard IP fax helps companies significantly reduce paper consumption – making it a true “green” alternative to traditional fax.

In addition, the system uses far less electricity compared to traditional fax – not only is there less equipment to power up (bear in mind the network routers would have to be powered up anyway), the fax machines don’t use a much juice because the motor-powered transport used for feeding paper and printing faxes is not utilized as frequently.

Aventa is also benefitting from the security capabilities that are inherent with IP fax: With traditional fax systems, documents can sit on the fax machine, for all eyes to see, sometimes for hours or even days before they are retrieved. What’s more, IP fax transmissions can be secured on the network level using encryption. Considering Aventa deals with highly confidential mortgage documents, loan applications, pay stubs, title guarantees, and other critically sensitive documents, this is a critical need. IP fax also helps companies meet increasingly stringent compliance requirements.

“By successfully deploying the Cisco AXP- XMediusFAX FoIP solution, we are experiencing improved productivity,” said Kirk Henderson, Chief Technology Officer, Aventa Credit Union, in a release. “With minimal training required, our employees have easily adopted XMediusFAX and love the fact that they no longer need to leave their workstations to send and receive faxes since this function is now integrated into our e-mail system and is managed electronically.”

“By adding the fax component into our converged voice and data infrastructure, we have cost effectively leveraged our existing Cisco based IP network and avoided adding any additional servers,” Henderson added. “We are more effectively utilizing our Cisco 2800 series routers at all our branches, consuming less power, reducing paper usage, and promoting a greener work environment.”

Aventa Credit Union reportedly selected the Cisco AXP-XMediusFAX FoIP solution based on recommendations from HEIT, a financial industry system integration specialist and Cisco Silver Certified Partner.

Sagem-Interstar will be demonstrating its XMediusFAX solution during the upcoming the Cisco Live! 2009 conference, scheduled to be held June 27 to July 2 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, Calif.

“Our XMediusFAX FoIP solution is one of the first software applications in the world to be certified for the Cisco AXP 1.1.1 and Cisco Unified Communications (News - Alert) Manager 7.0,” said Jean Champagne, general manager of Sagem-Interstar. “It offers advanced disaster recovery and branch survivability capabilities, making it the most secure, reliable, and economical way to fax from anywhere, anytime, and any device.”
