Online Fax Solutions Increasingly Used to Close Business Deals

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

In a recent survey, eFax, a provider of IP fax services, revealed the growing importance of mobile devices and online fax solutions in helping businesses close deals beyond the confines of their office.

To be precise, the survey found that 84 percent of small business professionals have closed a recent deal beyond the confines of their office.

Further, 32 percent of the more than 1,100 small and medium-sized businesses polled said they have closed at least half of their deals this year from a smartphone or tablet.

The result reinforces the fact that vital business communications and document exchange are no longer reliant on the traditional office, given how much can be accomplished virtually anywhere using a mobile device.

Regarding the use of mobile applications, nearly a third of respondents said the ability to sign documents on their screen using only their finger is the most valuable feature during the process of closing the deals on the go.  In addition, almost 70 percent say that being able to use their finger to generate a digitized signature for online faxing will help them close more business.

The survey results coincide with the release of new eFax mobile app, which helps professionals sign documents on their mobile device using eFax's new finger signature feature.

Despite the fact that e-mail is the top method of business communications, fax continues to be a critical tool for business transactions, especially in cases that require sending a signed contract or other documents  by hand.

Fax is also essential for common back office workflows for invoices, POs, and other process-oriented documents, as it supports the common requirement of signing a contract or purchase order.

The advantage of fax over e-mail is that fax time-stamps a document on both the sending and receiving ends. For this reason, faxed documents can be considered to have a greater legal standing, eFax explained.

Online fax solutions also demand enhanced security. eFax solutions are SSL encrypted and stored in a secure Web-based inbox, providing a more secure method of transmission than regular e-mail.

Using the eFax mobile app and phone or tablet camera, one can snap a photo of a contract, add a digitized signature with a swipe of a finger, and transmit the contract via fax – all in a matter of seconds, the company said.

“This latest eFax survey underscores what we hear from entrepreneurs every day: The mobile device is the office,” said Mike Pugh, vice president of Marketing for j2 Global (News - Alert). “That means that deals need to get done anywhere.”

With the addition of finger signatures to the eFax mobile apps, customers can seal the deal anywhere without pen, paper or hassle.
