Sagemcom, a French provider of broadband equipment and IP communication technology, has announced that HomeGrid Forum has awarded its HomePNA (News - Alert) certification to three of its products.
"We believe that HomeGrid's certification is a mark of distinction. Integrating certified HomePNA into our products enables service providers to deliver a highly reliable in-home backbone for extending and enhancing existing Wi-Fi networks and providing the Quality of Experience that consumers have come to expect. With a HomePNA-based network, consumers can move an ever-expanding range of media content around the home quickly and easily," said Ahmed Selmani, deputy CEO of Sagemcom (News - Alert) Broadband.
"Sagemcom continues to expand its range of certified HomePNA products to meet market demand, providing both consumers and service providers with a solid and high quality range of HomePNA products,” HomeGrid Forum President John Egan said. “The level of ongoing commitment to HomePNA technology, demonstrated by Sagemcom and many others, ensures a continuous flow of new, quality products to the market. Sagemcom's continued commitment to HomePNA technology underscores the importance of HomeGrid's certification program for HomePNA devices as well as the strength of the technology for service providers."
HomeGrid Forum merged with HomePNA earlier in 2013. The forum includes over 70 major companies in the advanced home networking market. It includes vendors in hardware and services, including nearly all forms of wired networking aimed at the home market using the G.hn standard. HGF provides testing and certification to products, ensuring interoperability.
Gateways like Sagemcom’s could be used to coordinate home networks, including IPTV (News - Alert) set-top boxes. While Wi-Fi is already ubiquitious, G.hn also supports networks using AC power lines to transmit data, making it less susceptible to Wi-Fi interference. G.hn also supports coaxial cable, phone lines and fiber-optic cables. It also allows the construction of “smart grid” and “smart home” applications in a household.
Sagemcom introduced its first HomePNA gateway earlier this year.
