Service Broker Forum Launches Service Broker Channel on TMCnet

TMCnet News

(Norwalk, CT – [July 20, 2010]) Technology Marketing Corporation today announced that the Service Broker channel has launched on TMCnet.

The new channel can be found at: http://www.tmcnet.com/channels/service-broker/

The Service Broker channel is supported by members of the Service Broker Forum, a multi-vendor association with the goal of evangelizing and educating the telecommunication industry on the service broker product category through the sharing of ideas, opinions and knowledge.

Members include innovative companies such as Amdocs/jNetx, Metaswitch, OpenCloud and Oracle (News - Alert). The forum provides a common platform to facilitate discussion and communication around the many benefits that can be realized from utilizing Service Brokers within an overall network evolution strategy.

Service Brokers have been defined by the Service Broker Forum as a standalone network element that efficiently manages service interaction and service composition. Service Brokers reside between the service layer and the converging network and is traditionally decoupled from the core switch and the service execution or service-creation environment.

Citing from his recent “Current Analysis (News - Alert) IMS Adoption Outlook” report, principal analyst Joe McGarvey expounds on the service broker market opportunity. “Operators have been rightfully resistant to investing in a network overhaul that would produce services that were not applicable to roughly 90 percent of their subscriber universes, which are still dominated by subscribers attached to legacy networks. Recent technology introductions such as the Service Broker, have provided operators with a workaround to this problem, essentially enabling IMS to be backward compatible with legacy services and infrastructures. The imposition of a Service Broker between the application and control layers of the network creates a sort of signaling protocol Rosetta Stone that enables operators to build bridges between services domains, such as IN, NGN, and IMS, and switching platforms, such as softswitches, CSCFs and MSCs. The result is an imposition of homogenization on a heterogeneous communications environment, empowering operators with the ability to make nearly 100 percent of their services available to nearly 100 percent of subscribers.”

The TMC (News - Alert) Service Broker channel will focus on the market’s biggest challenges, solutions and best practices offered by forum members and others.

TMCnet’s channels are micro-targeted information portals where readers can find topic-specific news, articles, feature stories and product reviews.
