Mushroom Networks (News - Alert), a mover and shaker in the SD-WAN, announced this week that the San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) is its newest technology partner. The private, not-for-profit corporation is comprised of 1,000 member organizations, businesses, local government and people interested in promoting San Diego as a premier work and vacation destination.

The Truffle (News - Alert) platform will orchestrate and load balance up to four (for now) Internet lines to support SDTA operations. Via T-1, cable modem, DSL, MPLS, metro-Ethernet and/or fiber services from multiple Internet service providers, the newly implemented platform promises to increase performance and reliability of applications and services – such as your favorite SaaS (News - Alert) application.

“With a staff of over 90 people distributed throughout the major San Diego area, we needed a reliable, cost-effective means of providing Internet access to everyone,” said Hameed Qasimi, SDTA’s network administrator. “With Mushroom Networks’ Truffle platform, we have added performance and redundancy for users at a price point that is very attractive.”

Mushroom Networks claims the platform provides ROI in less than six months with the Truffle solution. And, like other SD-WAN providers, part of the value is savings. However, application performance is the primary factor for SD-WAN’s growing market presence – not that savings aren’t a nice cherry on top.

Cahit Akin, CEO of Mushroom Networks, said, “We’re thrilled to help our home town and one of the best locations to visit, San Diego promote itself to the rest of the world. Truffle is an ideal platform for organizations like the SDTA to provide reliable, cost-effective Internet access.”

Software is eating the world. And, SD-WAN is surging due to the abovementioned performance boost and cost savings, which explains why the market is pegged for exponential growth in the coming years. Connectivity is key to any operation, but especially an organization as disparate as the SDTA. What’s under the hood of your network?

Do you SD-WAN?
