It’s rather simple to manage and monitor IT operations while on-site, but for the geographically dispersed business, remote power management solutions offer the ability to be present, even when you’re not.

Because businesses rely on IT infrastructure and system availability to keep operations running, keeping a watch on server failure and downtime is on the top of the IT pro’s priority list. Remote power management tools can help mitigate risk without having to keep someone in-house at all times.

Minuteman Power Technologies (News - Alert) recently launched three new Remote Power Managers as part of its line of remote power management solutions, giving businesses the ability to have intelligent control over attached systems, no matter their location. With these tools, IT admins can oversee and manage systems straight from a laptop or mobile device. Should an issue ever arise, admins can utilize these tools to reboot or troubleshoot unresponsive devices.

“As we all know, locked-up systems are a fact of life, and whenever a device fails, the only method for restoring the device is to reboot it,” stated Bill Allen (News - Alert), director of marketing for Para Systems in a blog post. “With the cost of an average trip to fix a failed device in a remote facility currently estimated at $350 an hour, the RPM can quickly pay for itself when the attached devices only need to be rebooted. It’s not necessary to send a technician to a remote location to merely cycle power off and then on.”

There are a lot of benefits to investing in RPM solutions, including reducing downtime and operational support costs, or enabling equipment to be powered down during periods of inactivity, thus saving money and providing environmental benefits.

Remote management capabilities mean less time and money spent on traveling from site to site to fix equipment issues. Instead, these problems can be resolved from a mobile device, lowering the total cost of ownership. The ability to remotely manage critical IT devices allows business owners to cycle power from any remote location.

There is no denying the importance of remote management capabilities in today’s data-centric environment. The ability to monitor, manage, and control multiple locations from one device saves time and money by cutting out lengthy trips, hiring multiple IT staff, and mitigating risk.
