VoIP Logic Upgrades Class 5 Hosted PBX Infrastructure

By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

VoIP Logic (News - Alert), a global provider of VoIP managed services and solutions, recently announced an upgrade of its managed services Class 5 Hosted PBX infrastructure which will now support Cisco's (News - Alert) "Skinny" (Skinny Call Control Protocol – SCCP).

Currently VoIP Logic has support for SIP and MGCP, and provides Class 5 hosted PBX (News - Alert) functionality to address the needs of carriers serving enterprise clients using older generation VoIP phone equipment from Cisco Systems.

With this latest upgrde, CSPs working with VoIP Logic can also address the needs of the large number of enterprises who are in the market for an enhanced or replacement hosted PBX service provider.

"We are now well positioned to provide an easy migration pathway for service providers using BroadSoft's Synergy and M6 application servers, both of which support MGCP and SCCP endpoints," said Micah Singer (News - Alert), CEO of VoIP Logic, in a press release. "We are confident that service providers will opt for the most reliable and scalable systems available for their Hosted PBX solutions. Our industry is a very dynamic, ever changing competitive landscape and we want to make sure we are providing a viable offering. Now, with the ability to support a much broader range of legacy customer equipment, we are."

The usage of Skinny/SCCP has increased widely in the recent past though SIP still remains the dominant protocol used to connect to the current generation of IP Phones, Integrated Access Devices (IADs), software clients and mobile applications.

Carriers regularly are required to support legacy Adtran IADs, Cisco IADs, Cisco Call Manager, Cisco 7900 series phones and a range of other Skinny / SCCP based devices deployed by enterprises around the world which do not function seamlessly using SIP.

By using infrastructure components from Acme Packet (News - Alert), GENBAND and BroadSoft - notably the newly available Access Mediation Server from BroadSoft which supports SCCP - VoIP Logic operates a geographically redundant Class 5 Hosted PBX platform. With the help of these production systems, the service providers in North America, Europe and Latin America can bring enterprise telephony services to market without extensive capital investment or long deployment delays.

"The Access Mediation Server is an important step in the evolution of Broadworks technology," said Scott Hoffpauir, CTO at BroadSoft. "It allows us to offer a single platform that covers over 95 percent of currently deployed IP Phones, IP PBXs and other Customer devices. We think VoIP Logic is on the right track when it comes to using this technology to make life easier and to improve revenue opportunities for their VoIP managed services carrier customers."
