Generating new sources of revenue for traditional communication service providers (CSP (News - Alert)'s) is becoming increasingly more difficult. One of the ways CSP's are overcoming this hurdle is by introducing new products to market much faster via virtualized network infrastructure. The availability of the Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) solution from NEC (News - Alert) Corporation and Netcracker Technology will, according to the companies, help service providers generate new revenue in both B2B and residential markets.

As the market's first full-service NaaS solution, CSPs can create, deploy and monetize value-added services in an end-to-end environment quickly. The open ecosystem of pre-integrated partners has commercialization tools that brings together virtualized network infrastructure and services, cloud applications and orchestration. With this platform, NEC/Netcracker wants service providers to adopt a better and faster approach for the way in which they commercialize new services using software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) technologies to address specific market needs.

"The NEC/Netcracker NaaS solution takes full advantage of the network and enables the provisioning of new services, such as security and enterprise applications. Moreover, the NaaS solution contributes to fast and flexible service engagement for B2B services in which service providers face increasing competition in the market," said Shigeru Okuya, General Manager of the SDN/NFV Division at NEC Corporation.

The NEC/Netcracker NaaS is, according to the companies, a first in a series of new, market-focused solutions powered by their Agile (News - Alert) Virtualization Platform and Practice (AVP). With AVP, service providers won't have to worry about the complexities and day-to-day management and operations of their virtualized and cloud initiatives. They can now focus on developing new services and they will be able to deliver it with the fastest route for monetization at much lower costs.

Operators can now engage with the customers to create products and services that address their particular needs and allow them to purchase it on demand through a single self-service portal.

"The NEC/Netcracker NaaS solution provides a complete, end-to-end environment that supports the definition, provisioning, orchestration and lifecycle management of complex services. It leverages the advances in both network and function virtualization to allow a new level of flexibility and automation, lowering costs and reducing time-to-market said Fran Heeran (News - Alert), Vice President and General Manager of SDN/NFV at Netcracker.

The NEC/Netcracker NaaS brings enterprise vCPE, residential CPE and SD-WAN, firewalls, bandwidth-on-demand, web filtering, WAN optimization and cloud-based business productivity applications. With these features, CSPs can start creating personalized customer offerings. And as part of the NEC/Netcracker, NaaS customers can access pre-integrated services in its open ecosystem of partners and value-added segment of B2B and residential markets.

The traditional core offerings operators have been providing with legacy systems and infrastructures is no longer enough. Increased competition and price erosion now demand the ability to quickly onboard and launch new services to increase their revenue mix. With the NEC/Netcracker NaaS solution, CSPs will not be limited by the infrastructure they have in place, and they will be able to compete as long as they continue to innovate with next generation services customers need.
