Bruce Kaskey Discusses the Advantages of an Open Sourced Recording Option

The advantages of call recording are immediately apparent from a training and customer service perspective. They offer detailed and transparent visibility of your operation and allow you to remedy issues with particular agents or policies. While call recording software is available through a number of providers, its open sourced iteration is something a little less common. However, the flexibility and power to act that an open source call recording solution grants your business operation is well beyond anything that a standard suite can offer. Recently TMC had an opportunity to sit down with OrecX co-founder Bruce Kaskey (News - Alert) to talk about what his company is doing in the open source recording field.

Open platforms give customers flexibility and with flexibility come efficiency’s in cost and productivity.  Open source call recording software provider OrecX believes that customers should have choices based on their business needs, not on what a manufacturer has decided should be best for a market. In OrecX’s case, an open platform allows their call recording utility to integrate with all call center tools, analytics, workforce management and CRM packages. This flexibility is not constrained by brand or platform and can be used with success any operation that requires a call recording option.

Another major advantage of OrecX’s solution is that it’s relatively cheap in comparison to alternate call recording platforms. According to OrecX’s Co-Founder, Bruce Kaskey, “because the product was built off of the open source code we developed OrecXs’ product suite at a much lower cost, so we can pass the cost savings back to our customers.” The systems also has the benefit of being platform agnostic, so you won’t need to change hardware or operating systems to get the best out of the solution. Kaskey continues, “Cost of ownership is low since customers can choose hardware, and all installations, customization and training is done remotely.  So traditional installation of 100 licenses by a traditional recording company would cost after install, training and purchase of proprietary equipment about $100,000 dollars and take about 2 weeks to install. With Orecx (News - Alert) it would take us 4 hours and cost $10,000 dollars.”

For those of you fearful that open source solution requires programming knowledge for full utility, the OrecX solution is so intuitive, programming and adjustments can be made by almost anyone on your team.  Kaskey says, “Most of our customers are not programmers and don’t have programmers, but are end users.  If the customization is complicated and very user specific we’ll help out, but they usually don’t need us if they have even a C++ person on site.”

For companies that want a full featured call recording suite with the flexibility to grow with their operation, the OrecX open source solution is one of the best options on the market.   If a business has these needs and wants in recording OrecX is a right choice.
