BreakingPoint Unveils Network Processor Capabilities at Interop 2011

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

BreakingPoint, a cyber security company, is demonstrating the word’s first fully integrated, massively scalable solution for testing LTE (News - Alert)/4G infrastructures at this week’s Interop 2011.

Company officials said the BreakingPoint LTE/4G Test Lab was created to simulate the exact behavior of mobile users, while taking only a few minutes to configure.

Featuring BreakingPoint’s patented network processor technology, the LTE/4G test lab also dramatically reduces the costs associated with generating LTE User Equipment (UE) to just pennies per mobile device, company officials said.

The LTE Test Lab is the only fully integrated solution for generating massive-scale application and attack traffic over LTE infrastructures, from the handset and tower, through the backhaul Evolved Packet Core (EPC).

The intuitive single-screen configuration allows service providers and network device manufacturers to rapidly produce real-world Internet traffic through an LTE infrastructure.

The solution emulates key LTE network components, including UE, eNodeB, Mobility Management Entity (MME), and Service Gateway (News - Alert) (SGW). It simulates 150-plus applications over an LTE network, including AOL IM, BlackBerry Services, Encrypted BitTorrent, FIX/FIXT, Google Gmail, HTTP, HTTPS, IBM (News - Alert) DB2, MAPI, Microsoft CIFS/SMB, MSN Nexus, Oracle, PP Live, QQ IM, RADIUS, SIP, Skype, SMTP, VMware VMotion, Windows Live Messenger, World of Warcraft, Yahoo! Mail and Messenger, and many others. The LTE solution also evaluates application-aware and DPI-capable devices in both 3G and LTE environments with support for GTPv1 and GTPv2.

“Global service providers are beginning to roll out LTE/4G networks, and users are now expecting a higher-performing mobile network experience,” said BreakingPoint CTO Dennis Cox (News - Alert), in a statement. “The impact of new users, applications, and high-bandwidth activity on the LTE infrastructure must be made clear to the service providers and to the network device manufacturers.”

In addition to LTE Test Lab, the company is showcasing Data Center Resiliency Test Lab to measure and harden the performance, security, and stability of servers, virtualized servers, and application delivery infrastructures, including the automated and standardized BreakingPoint Data Center Resiliency Score.

Other solutions on display include low-latency network validation with the ability to measure network latency down to 10-nanosecond resolution and massive-scale application load testing to measure the performance, stability, and capacity of applications.

BreakingPoint’s Multicast Test Lab, a dedicated interface to help increase the performance and stability of services critical to financial exchanges, IPTV (News - Alert), LTE/4G, military communications, and more, is also displayed at the company booth.

The new capabilities, including the LTE Test Lab, are available within all BreakingPoint products and automatically for current customers. With these capabilities the company allows organizations to measure and harden the resiliency of the full range of enterprise IT infrastructure components -- devices, networks, applications, and data centers -- using a single, compact, and easy-to-use device.

Recently BreakingPoint also unveiled new capabilities, including the addition of 27,000 pieces of live malware to its comprehensive, all-in-one product for IT resiliency testing.
