Advantech Unwraps New EN50155 Certified IP67 Managed Ethernet Switches

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

Multicore network processor supplier Advantech Industrial Automation Group  has released two new 8-port EN50155 certified IP67 managed Ethernet switches, the EKI-6558TI and EKI-6559TMI. In addition, Advantech (News - Alert) has also partnered with Cavium Networks to commercialize rackmount network appliance. Using Cavium’s 6-core OCTEON II processor CN6335, Advantech has developed a 1U rackmount network appliance, labeled Packetarium NCP-3120.

It integrates powerful and multi-core Packetarium network processing boards for wire speed packet processing. The scalability of NCP-3120 makes it suitable for OEMs designing entry level systems in enterprise networking, said Advantech. The Packetarium network appliance is being demonstrated this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Simultaneously, the company also unveiled a ruggedized variant, the NCP-3105, which is specifically being aimed at more core and wireless network elements such as Radio Network Controllers and eNodeB/Basestations.

Regarding managed Ethernet switches, the EN50155 certification and redundant X-Ring allows for trusted connection to Ethernet networks, which is particularly useful for passenger information and video surveillance systems, said Advantech. With IP67 rated housings and vibration- resistant M12 connectors, these switches are built to withstand tough environments and ensure reliable transmissions, added the manufacturer.

The EKI-6558TI and EKI-6559TMI have watertight and weatherproof cases to protect against mechanical stress, moisture and condensation, dirt, dust or vibrations. The EKI-6559TMI offers two fiber optic ports to guarantee interference-free connections and extend communication range.

According to the manufacturer, the managed Ethernet switches are designed to target a wide range of industrial applications. For instance, the EN50155 certification for railway application requirements guarantees reliable performance under stressful conditions, such as voltage spikes, interruption of voltage supply, cool weather, dry heat, bumps, vibration, shock, surges, PF magnetic fields, pulse magnetic fields, and conducted emissions. Likewise, for passenger information systems, the certification allows these modules to connect with LCD and LED display boards. While for video surveillance systems, it guarantees that these devices can reliably connect with cameras for a variety of applications.
