Juniper Takes Turk Telekom Rout

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Turk Telekom has deployed Juniper Networks (News - Alert) T-series core routers to upgrade capacity and accelerate the introduction of new revenue-generating services.

Turk Telekom is Turkey's largest telecoms operator with four million customers. By the end of 2008, the operator expects to have nine million broadband subscribers, which is expected to increase the demand for core network capacity and performance to reliably and cost-effectively support a wide range of bandwidth-intensive, high-quality voice, data and content services.

According to Cengiz Dogan, head of IT at Turk Telekom, the T-series routing platform was chosen for its high performance, reliability and scalability. Dogan explained that this investment in the network core gives them a proven solution with the ability to quickly and cost-effectively expand even further in the future. Since Turk Telekom has already increased its network capacity 15-fold to support growing demand for multiplay services, the migration path offered by the T-series suits their rapid growth plans and also enforces their long-term reputation as a technical innovator for the benefit of their customers.

Leveraging the deployment of Juniper Networks T-series routers Turk Telekom can consolidate its TDM (Time Division Multiplexing), IP and voice networks onto a single core IP MPLS network, supporting voice, video and data services with assured levels of quality and performance. Turk Telekom is deploying redundant pairs of T640 routers throughout their core infrastructure in order to support approximately 180 edge locations across the country.

“Increasingly, end users are looking beyond price and basic speed from their broadband provider,” said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president of operations, EMEA, Juniper Networks in a statement.

Schenk said that to remain competitive, operators must ensure that they can cost-effectively provide a flexible range of high-quality, reliable services that may include video on demand, IPTV, voice and Internet connectivity from a single IP-based network. He believes that with Juniper Networks T-series, Turk Telekom is building the high-performance core infrastructure necessary to fuel its success and growth in the marketplace.
