Researchers Focus on Mobile User Interfaces of the Future

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

As 2009 draws to a close, it’s easy to forget  that in 2000, cell phones looked like bricks, texting wasn’t a big deal except in Japan and mobile data was limited in its scope.

Today, electronic devices have become pervasive in almost every aspect of our lives, from business to communication to entertainment. As enterprises look to beef up their mobile management policies, it’s important to keep an eye on the next generation of technology, including user interfaces.

Telecom professionals, enterprise management teams and tech personnel can more about the burgeoning market for next-generation mobile devices through a special Webinar sponsored by In-Stat (News - Alert), “A New Paradigm in Mobile User Interfaces,” held Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. central time.

Researchers will discuss the ways mobile devices improve productivity, increase access to information and connect users through rich multimedia experiences.

Soon, said In-Stat, the combination of advanced sensors, new human-to-machine interface technologies and the web for application development and real-time information, will allow next-generation devices to leap from being in our lives to being part of our lives and interacting with the world around us.

Thursday’s Webinar, part of In-Stat’s six-part series, focuses on next-generation interfaces, the evolution of user interfaces, software and hardware innovations and more.

Speakers will focus on the impact of future UI implementations, including how consumers view and use technology and the implications for future mobile devices.

The webinar will be hosted by Jim McGregor, chief technology strategist of In-Stat’s mobile Internet group. Joining Jim will be Fred Cohen from TI, Ludvig Linge from The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) and Andrew Hsu from Synaptics (News - Alert). A question and answer session will follow.
