Line2 HD Offers Advanced Capabilities for Mobile Communications

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Toktumi (News - Alert) has developed some clever mobile communications, specifically, VoIP applications for iPhone and iPad users. Two years ago, the company released Line2 (News - Alert), which adds a second phone number to any iPhone or iPod Touch. Now, Toktumi has unveiled the Line2 HD which is sure to please the business community's desires for enhanced mobile communications.

According to this CNet review, Line2 applies the same app to the iPad to transform the tablet into a full-featured iPhone (News - Alert), creating a centralized spot for managing calls and messages.

Line2 offers potential mobile communications users the ability to test drive the app and service for a seven day free trial. This sign up is available at the company's website and is no longer offered as an in app sign-up option. Once the free trial period is over, there are two different service plans of Line2 to choose from, Standard or Professional.

The Standard costs $9.95 per month, with the Professional version priced at $14.95 per month. There is an option to purchase a yearly subscription, which will then give the user a discount. Either mobile communications plan will give users the capability of establishing a new or transferred phone number, visual voice mail which includes message deliver via e-mail and unlimited local and long-distance calls.

Aside from the price, the Professional plan gives users a virtual receptionist, an auto attendant and the choice of a toll-free number. For $150 a year, this mobile communications plan is a good option for business related phone services elsewhere.

While the Line2 and Line2 HD app is self explanatory and user friendly, the benefits of its detailed history for calls, voice mail and messages is a significant bonus for those needing mobile communications and a mobile device to act as a virtual office.

As the app acts like an office, business users will find the capabilities to perform conference calls with as many as 20 participants and toggle “do not disturb” notes for inbound calls a plus. The iPad, with the Line2 HD option, can even automatically forward calls lost with no Wi-Fi or 3G connection to as many as six other phones.

The iPad is able to receive the calls quickly and with high quality in terms of sound, even on speakerphone mode. If a user plans to go with the Blue-tooth option, an iPad2 is probably the best route. The iPad does not support the hands-free option.

The Line2 mobile communications app is a great contender for business professionals. It's a viable option for the iPad to transform into an iPhone.
