A Gilbert, Arizona-based marketing automation software company today announced that its Web-based product is exceeding standards set by an independent council that guides security for the payment card industry.
Infusionsoft officials say their company now has reached the highest industry level in security of customer data – a standard that’s set by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council.
“Protecting our customers’ financial data is something we take very, very seriously,” said Clate Mask (News - Alert), president and chief executive officer of Infusionsoft. “Achieving PCI compliance allows us to further safeguard that critical data at the highest levels in the industry.”
The payment card industry includes debit, credit, pre-paid, e-purse, ATM
, and POS cards and associated businesses. Formed two years ago by American Express (News - Alert), Discover Financial Services, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa International, the council takes on a task that evolves with technologies that threaten to make it easier for thieves to commit credit card fraud.
The PCI Data Security Standard, created by the credit card companies to help organizations prevent security breaches, includes 12 requirements for safeguarding payment card data. Any company that processes credit card data today could be threatened by cyber-crime attacks, resulting in customer identity theft.
Infusionsoft officials say their company handles millions of online transactions for its customers. The customers rely on Infustionsoft's Web-based marketing automation software to run their businesses with tools such as outbound multichannel marketing, contact management, e-commerce and email marketing.
Those who commit identity theft face severe fines. Yet the rate of PCI compliance is thought to be less than 50 percent, according to Infusionsoft.
Company officials cite a report from Gartner (News - Alert) Inc. last year, in which the industry analysis firm found that just 39 percent of level-one merchants and 33 percent of level-two merchants complied with the standard. Level one merchants are those that process more than 6 million transactions per year, while level two are those that process up to 6 million transactions per year.
