4medica, a provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)-based clinical integration platform, announced it has integrated Nuance (News - Alert) IVR technology to its cloud-based Integrated Electronic Health Record. 4medica iEHR now includes Nuance Healthcare's 360 | Development Platform to offer a completely Web-based solution that allows physicians to document care via voice anytime or anywhere they can connect to the Internet, the company said in a press release.

Nuance Healthcare's 360 | Development Platform enables software solutions providers to easily embed cloud-based speech and clinical language understanding (CLU) technologies into their browser-based applications, mobile applications and thin-client desktop solutions.

"By partnering with Nuance to speech-enable iEHR, we give physicians a way to document simply by speaking," said Oleg Bess, M.D., 4medica's CEO, in a statement. "It's an easy, natural way for physicians to take advantage of mobile technology, and, as a result, increase their productivity, enhance care delivery and improve the accuracy and timeliness of clinical documentation."

4medica's iEHR helps a wide variety of healthcare organizations create a seamless view of the patient care experience and drive EHR adoption. It helps them aggregate laboratory, imaging, pathology, e-prescribing and inpatient data from multiple sources into a single patient-centric record. The integrated IVR solution allows clinicians to speak into the 4medica iEHR Note Writer and add their own notes to the template.

The new iEHR also allows physicians to populate open fields of the clinical note by voicing their desired selection. They can also view the narrative note in real-time on the screen and make corrections by manually editing, deleting or adding to the dictated note.

"Physicians want EHRs that are more user-friendly and intuitive," said Dr. Bess. "The addition of speech recognition makes iEHR exactly that, and simplifies the entire mobile experience."

Nuance is known for their IVR/speech recognition software offered in multitude of languages. In a significant announcement earlier this year, the company launched version 8 of its PDF converter for enterprise that features full-age PDF editing, a collaboration mode called "PDF Live" and the company's Dragon Dication speech recognition software.
