ITIL Certification Being Required in Support Employment: Example

As organizations adopt ITIL as an effective and efficient means of cost-efficiently delivering successful and timely internal and external support they are requiring and savvy IT professionals are seeking ITIL training and certification.

Here is one such example from the U.K., recently posted on Silicon.com:

“Software Application Support Manager - SQL / .NET (News - Alert) -Manchester. Our growing client based in Manchester is currently looking for a Software Application Support Manager. You will ideally have worked in a SQL / .NET environment and have ITIL (or equivalent) certification. The role will be to guide the team in the support and maintenance of the companies bespoke software systems. To provide support and assistance to all staff including IT Support Developers and IT Analyst Developers. You will initially be managing [four] people, however this is likely to grow over the coming months.”


Skills:

--ITIL (or equivalent) certified
--Experience of a service management environment
--Self motivated and committed individual
--Well organized with ability to work to deadlines
--Strong planning and prioritizing skills
--Good communication skills at all levels
--Ability to establish effective working relations with immediate staff and other staff in the business
--Ability to work to own initiativeProblem management (and ownership from point of escalation to resolution)
--Experience of line management and people development
--Strong working knowledge of relevant development methodologies and lifecycles
--Strong knowledge of relevant technologies; T-SQLand VB.NET
--Good working knowledge of testing and quality assurance processes
--Ability to work in an intensive, fast paced commercially focused, environment
--Ability to demonstrate use of initiative and work independently with minimum supervision
--Flexible, able to work occasional unsociable hours. (Ed. Note: Manchester is not bad of a city for that; it is very lively and has an excellent public transportation system)
