snom and Wyde Voice Partnership Boosts Audio Conference Quality of IP Phones

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

For IP phones manufacturer, 2009 was a busy year, as more enterprises moved toward adopting unified communications.

Having already unveiled the 820 and 870 advanced SIP-based business VoIP phones, snom technology AG (News - Alert) said it is looking to do even better, going forward, with its newly forged partnership with Wyde Voice (News - Alert) LLC to deliver high-definition audio conferencing capabilities to snom’s HD audio- enabled desktop VoIP phones.

The partnership will help users of the snom 8XX series SIP phones (which comprises the snom 820 and the snom 870 touchscreen IP phone) and snom’s MeetingPoint conference phone -- which support snom’s wideband audio capabilities -- utilize the Wyde Voice HD SoftBridge audio conferencing application, according to snom. Wyde Voice HD SoftBridge is a software-based high definition audio and Web conferencing bridge technology that eliminates the need for Digital Signal Processing (DSP) cards and lets audio conferencing providers use off-the-shelf hardware to deploy software bridges that can scale from two to 10,000 concurrent user ports.

“We are pleased to be working with Wyde Voice as we continue our innovation and leadership in the HD VoIP market and partner with the companies developing innovative solutions to deliver HD audio capabilities to businesses large and small,” said Michael Knieling (News - Alert), executive v ice president of marketing and sales for snom, in a recent press release. “The Wyde Voice HD SoftBridge, used in concert with our snom 820 and 870 VoIP phones, can deliver superior audio conferences with the crisp and clear fidelity needed in today’s fast-paced business world.”

Along with wideband voice, snom’s 8XX series of advanced SIP-based business VoIP phones offer a host of cutting-edge business communications features including wireless LAN connectivity, full-color screens and support for Microsoft (News - Alert) Office Communications Server.

Wyde Voice’s HD SoftBridge supports leading high-definition voice technologies, such as G.722 codecs and iSAC. It also ties in a full-feature menu of conferencing capabilities that were once reserved for expensive legacy audio bridges. Available in two models, the SB1000 and SB3000, HD SoftBridge uses open APIs that allow for the control of bridge and conference-call functionality from any enterprise or Web application.

Along with supporting high-quality codecs, Wyde Voice HD SoftBridge offers a host of other capabilities including subconferences, Q&A, operator assistance, real-time speaker notification, conference broadcast and additional technology that guarantees voice quality even during periods of low bandwidth availability and network congestion.

“Wyde Voice is excited that its new cutting edge HD- compatible audio conferencing bridges are compatible with wideband-enabled VoIP phones from snom,” said Michael Eastman, Wyde Voice vice president of Global Sales, in a press release. “The combination of the Wyde Voice SB1000/SB3000 audio conferencing bridges and snom’s HD audio phone models will set a new standard for quality in voice collaboration.”
