snom VoIP Phones Now Available Through U.S. General Services Administration

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

snom technology AG’s extensive product line of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones has been added to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA (News - Alert)) contract list making it easier for buyers to incorporate the company’s interoperable platforms with their own systems.

The snom SIP portfolio can now be purchased on the GSA list thru a three-way deal that includes snom partner  ABP (News - Alert) Technology and contract holder Technical Communities Inc. and is expected to extend snom’s reach even further into a considerable government market. The list is managed by the federal government in an effort to streamline the purchasing process of government agencies and employees.

Under the terms of the deal, which is effective immediately, snom will be listed on an approved “GSA Schedule” to sell its advanced security features, interoperability and IPv6 capabilities with the snom 820 VoIP phone, broadly used snom3xx series and the snom MeetingPoint.

The deal is significant for the German-based snom because it allows the company to work with agencies across the country as a “trusted vendor” with special and approved pricing. Essentially, the GSA IT Schedule 70 contract provides a streamlined vehicle for federal, state and local agencies to purchase snom’s comprehensive portfolio of VoIP phones.

After unveiling the advance features of its 820 phone line, as well as its first conference phone and an environmentally friendly touch screen phone, the company last month introduced the snom MeetingPoint.

The phone is designed to deliver wideband audio and allows for management of up to four outside participants, Mike Storella (News - Alert), director of business development for snom recently told TMCnet during a recent briefing.

snom MeetingPoint, which also allows for 12 SIP extensions and native connectivity with Microsoft (News - Alert) Office Communications Server, is designed to record meetings with up to 10 participants with a USB port that allows users to transfer the recordings.

“It’s another step in the evolution of our phones,” Storella told TMCnet at the time, adding that the company would continue to broaden its product offerings.

In addition to its highly functional SIP desk phones, the company offers the snom m3 DECT mobility phones that can also support unified communications solutions such as Microsoft OCS 2007 R2.

The SIP-based conference phones are now available for the North American enterprise and small to medium business (SMB) markets.
