Grandstream Networks' New Audio Conference Phone Goes Beta
By Steve Anderson, Contributing Writer

Grandstream Networks is ready to bring out a new audio conference phone for users to beta test.

Reports suggest that the new device is part of the Grandstream Networks (News - Alert) Grandstream Beta Club, a system that offers up Grandstream products to early adopters willing to offer feedback. There's an open application period on right now, running through October 14, and interested parties sign up at the Grandstream Beta Club website.

Beta Club is looking for those who have done beta testing work before, particularly in the field of audio conferencing tools and technologies. It's considered a plus if said testers have some ideas about where the conferencing market should be going.

The device being tested is a conference phone that runs on Android (News - Alert) 4.4, which makes it something of a rarity in the audio conference market, if not a rarity for Grandstream itself. Grandstream Wave for Android recently took home the 2015 Communications Solutions Product of the Year award from TMC (News - Alert), so Grandstream's connection to Android is well-established.

The device can support up to six lines at once and can host seven-way audio conferencing. It comes with the ability to use audio bridging between a Skype (News - Alert) or Google Hangouts call and a session initiation protocol (SIP) call. It boasts a 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen that displays at 800 x 480 revolution, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Grandstream is putting up an interesting prospect here. Not only is it offering an unusual device—generally, there aren't many Android-capable desktop phones around—but it's also opening its beta testing to consumers, rather than an in-house crew. Clearly Grandstream wants as broad a base of feedback to work with as possible, and is eager to get those ideas in rapidly.

Those interested will want to act quickly, as only 50 units will be available. Those interested will need to pay a dollar to cover handling costs if selected, though those who aren't selected won't be charged.
