Nimata Selected to Install Video Entry Phone System for City Harbour
By Clayton Hamshar, Contributing Writer

Nimata, a company specializing in access technologies, was recently chosen to install a new video entry IP phone system for City Harbour, a property development managed by Parc Properties in the Crossharbour area of London.

The previous analog system, which connected the 12 apartments in each block to the remotely opened front door, was included with the development when it opened in 1997 and provided the expected functionality: tenants could view and speak with a visitor before granting remote entry. However, several breakdowns over the years in addition to the rapid advancement of technology led Parc Properties to seek out a new solution. In addition to offering better video quality and reliability, the agency stipulated that the new system must be future proof and include accessibility for the porter to improve security.

Nimata’s solution, based on MOBOTIX (News - Alert) technology, employs seven MOBOTIX T24 units, each of which includes a 3.1 megapixel digital camera with internal memory, a keypad and an interface for the door lock release mechanism. The hemispheric door camera is able to record the entire entrance area with no blind spots. By connecting to a built-in SIP network, the units deliver bi-directional audio and high resolution color video to the Grandstream IP-based video phone in each apartment.

In response to the limited number of connections offered by the T24 server, NIMATA developed its own SIP server appliance that interfaces with the T24 and can manage up to 1,000 connections from a single unit. As an additional benefit, tenants can contact any other apartment in the complex as well as the porter for free from the video phone.

Through a partnership with a high-speed broadband provider, Nimata was able to offer additional value to its proposition. The company’s solution relied on high-speed Internet connectivity which was not yet available in the area, so the installation of its system allows Parc Properties to provide this added benefit to its tenants.

“We take the security of the building occupants very seriously and the NIMATA video entry phone system has met our expectations around image quality and reliability,” said James Ingles, Property Manager for Parc Properties. “The system has been well received by our residents and also the accessibility of high speed internet is a major benefit for the whole development.”

Nimata’s video entry phone system also includes a few other bonus features, such as allowing visitors to leave video messages for tenants. The system is simple to upgrade on a by-component basis, leaving things open for future technologies the management may want to add on. For example, Parc Properties is already considering functionality that will allow tenants and visitors to communicate via mobile devices instead of just the system in place.

After such a successful installation and roll out at City Harbour, Parc Properties is considering working with Nimata to upgrade several other properties it manages across London and southeast England.
