Snom University Holds Classes This Summer

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

It might be summer, but school is still in.

Officials of snom technology say they’re offering two snom University VAR training program sessions in August, and the return of the IP Sizzles, the annual demonstration and training tour from distributor ABP (News - Alert) Technology.

No, “sizzles” isn’t intended to describe the summer weather we’re getting, but it sure fits, doesn’t it?

The idea behind snom University is to give people a chance to get hands-on experience with snom products, in the presence of company officials who can explain it as they go, and a place to get as a training and certification program that consists of webinars, online courses, and face-to-face classroom training. From August 2-4 they’ll be in Washington, D.C., from August 11-12 in Dallas.

IP Sizzles will be held in August 9-11 in Dallas and August 30, Bogota, Colombia, for those interested in a bit more exotic locale.

Snom University includes webcasts and online courses offering new and updated material for previously certified VARs. Company officials say the classroom training sessions, such as the upcoming sessions in Dallas and Washington D.C., “are the only way to become a Certified Value Added Reseller for snom products. Successful individual participants will also be officially certified as ‘snom Certified Engineers’ (SCEs).”

Participants are expected to have an in-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, SIP, VoIP and telecommunication technologies, and it is preferable for candidates to have a basic knowledge of snom products. Training sessions are limited to 10 participants to each class.

IP Sizzles is a technology tour from ABP Technology, highlighting the equipment makers in IP communications and including two days of product exhibitions and demonstrations, as well as networking events for more casual conversation.

In February, TMC (News - Alert) had the news that snom made two major announcements regarding two products the company showcased at COMPTEL on the exhibit hall floor. The first announcement was news that the snom 821, has been tested and approved by Microsoft (News - Alert) for interoperability with Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2.

The IP phone is also further being tested for use with Microsoft Lync 2010. This recognition represents the second snom desktop phone to be qualified through the Compatible Devices Program.
