Toshiba Expands Capabilities for Suite of IP Phones

By Rachel Ramsey, TMCnet Web Editor

One of the most important business assets is a voice communication system. The right system gives businesses the power to attract customers, increase productivity, save money, enhance their image and improve customer satisfaction. Whether a business is just getting started or expanding with new locations, communication is key to keeping customers, employees and vendors connected.

In order to embrace this communications, Toshiba (News - Alert) offers IPedge Net technology, which allows users to network multiple systems together to dramatically expand capacity and improve integration between decentralized locations. It offers three models: the IPedge EP, which supports up to 40 users per server, the IPedge EC, which supports up to 200 users per server and the IPedge EM, which supports up to 1,000 users per server.

The Telecommunication Systems Division of Toshiba recently updated its IPedge line of IP phone systems designed for SMBs with Release 1.5, which includes a mobile client called IPMobility, voicemail survivability through direct cluster networking and integrated gateway wizards.

IPMobility provides single number reach to Apple and Android (News - Alert) smartphone devices for both incoming and outgoing calls. Single number reach means users only need to provide their office telephone numbers to receive incoming calls. This utilizes the existing IPedge follow-me feature, which provides options to choose either sequential or simultaneous ring to the desk phone and mobile phone.

“Now with IPMobility, IPedge empowers SMBs and multisite enterprises with the smartphone features they need to communicate more efficiently, cost effectively and reliably,” said Brian Metherell (News - Alert), vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division, in a statement.

With the latest release, the Enterprise Manager, a Web interface to manage IP phone systems, integrated its gateway configuration wizard for ADTRAN (News - Alert) gateways, making set-up faster and easier for users. Once the SIP trunk channel group and service definition information has been entered into the IPedge database, the wizard creates the configuration file. Toshiba also provides a separate gateway configuration wizard tool for AudioCodes gateways.

IPedge also includes applications such as unified messaging, unified communications, meeting application for audio/video conferences and Web collaboration, browser-based system administration with centralized multisite management, browser-based personal administration for individual users to program their own telephones, contact center solutions and on-premises mobility.
