Yealink and SURF Team Up to Promote Video Communications

By Rachel Ramsey, TMCnet Web Editor

Video conferencing has become an increasingly popular service and is widely used by enterprises, organizations and individuals. Thanks to the enormous growth in smartphone use and widespread adoption of multimedia applications, video conferencing is quickly becoming the natural choice for interpersonal and organizational communications.

The mobile industry is embracing and marketing video calling, as the future of mobile communications. Video desktop phones have become price accessible to an increasing number of enterprises and according to Gartner (News - Alert), 90 percent of all videoconferencing still takes place among endpoints in the same organization.

Yealink, a provider of IP phones and IP communications solutions, and Surf Communications (News - Alert) Solutions (SURF), a global provider of high-capacity multimedia communication systems and applications, have teamed up to promote video communications in enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses (SMB).

The partnership between the two companies is built upon the successful interoperability and integration between SURF’s ORION-MCU video conferencing system and Yealink’s (News - Alert) VP530 IP video phone. Together, the companies provide an easily deployed, user-friendly video conferencing solution that is especially suited to enterprises of any size.

“Interoperability in video conferencing is quite a challenge, and we are very well aware of both the importance and the complexity of it,” said Rotem Rave, SURF’s VP of Sales and Business Development, in a statement. “Our commitment to providing high-quality video conferencing extends to the partnerships we create. Our partnership with Yealink offers a highly stable, plug & play video conferencing solution.”

SURF-powered multimedia applications are delivering next-gen services to millions of end-users every day. The Orion-MCU is an open, standard based, high definition voice and video conferencing bridge that provides real-time, low latency, ubiquitous conferencing capabilities between different devices with different multimedia voice and video resolutions. Offering unmatched price/performance value, Orion-MCU targets conferencing for enterprises as well as conferencing for SMBs.

It bridges the gaps by providing connectivity beyond a wide variety of devices including tablets, smart phones, desktops, hardware phones and room systems that support different codec types and profiles and signaling protocols. Orion-MCU provides an optimized Quality of Experience (QoE) for mobile participants including an on-the-fly Adaptive Bit-Rate (ABR) technology to sense the network conditions and to adapt the proper bit-rate to any device. It supports high definition voice and video and is capable of identifying the handsets’ resolution capabilities and it provides only the handsets’ required resolution through transcoding.

“Yealink understands the needs of the video conferencing market and one of the major needs is interoperability - products need to work smoothly together,” said Stone Lu, vice president, Yealink. “As enterprises are our main target market, we have invested great effort in designing and testing our video phone to enable a quick response to interoperability demands as they arise. Now enterprises can easily deploy quality video conferencing in their organization and save time and expenses. Cooperation with Surf Communications Solutions is significance for both of us. We will shoulder greater responsibilities and share the same commitment to deliver the true power of communication to our global customers.”
