SphereCSE IP PBX Development Platform Announced at VoIP Developer Conference

By Laura Stotler, TMCnet Contributing Editor

At TMC’s VoIP Developer Conference 2006 today, Sphere Communications announced availability of the SphereCSE Communications Service Engine. The new solution is an IP PBX software development platform that targets OEMs and ISVs.

SphereCSE is the core technology behind the Sphericall IP PBX, a feature rich call control engine that has already been proven across hundreds of thousands of installed ports in multiple industry segments. The SIP-based engine supports a wide range of en-user communication devices in addition to connectivity services from established and emerging SIP and PSTN providers.

The solution offers a distributed architecture that can scale to 30,000 ports with five-nines reliability. The software is also certified secure through the JITC PBX1 approval program from the U.S. Department of Defense.

The SphereCSE leverages XML and SOAP technologies to deliver a comprehensive feature set of Web services. Sphere Web Services abstract the complexity of IP communications, rather than requiring expertise in VoIP protocols, PBX systems and low-level APIs. This enables software developers to focus on rolling out innovative solutions.

Users may make phone calls, see presence status, conduct audio and video conferences and text chat using solutions built on the SphereCSE. Other capabilities include voice mail, auto attendant, call recording and forwarding and configuration and address book management. Sphere offers a software development kit that is free and downloadable from their web site so developers may get started. The kit includes a WSDL specification, sample applications and documentation.

PacStar, one of Sphere's first partners utilizing the SphereCSE platform, has developed the PacStar 5500 series of emergency communications products. "Sphere's Web Services made it very easy for us to create our custom-built communications solution as a PacStar branded product," said Charlie Kawasaki, senior VP of product development, PacStar.

"Our unique SphereCSE platform is the ideal choice for rapid flexible development of custom-built or private branded IP communications solutions," said Graeme Robinson, president of Sphere Communications.
