German technology group Heraeus has contracted Orange Business Services (News - Alert) to modernize its network and centralize its services via a four-year deal. That will include a global hybrid wide area network to improve connectivity to the company’s multiple locations.

Through this relationship, Orange Business Services will “create a homogenous and stable network” for the company’s 100 locations around the world. That will enable the company to have fast connections to the cloud and communications services. And it will provide Heraeus with more transparency related to billing, contracts, costs, and service levels, according to the companies.

“A global company such as Heraeus needs a reliable and agile network foundation to tackle the challenges the future holds for this successful multinational enterprise,” said Helmut Reisinger, executive vice president of international at Orange Business Services. “Orange hybrid networks integrate security, internet, and optimized and application-centric cloud access to meet the business needs of our customers both now and in the future.”

Established in 1851, Heraeus is a family-owned, international company based in Hanau, Germany. The company delivers a broad range of solutions related to the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, electronics and automotive, fused quartz and fused silica, light and heat, medical and health care, metals, and renewable energy.

Orange Business Services, meanwhile, is a communications company with 260 million customers, 157,000 employees, and 40.2 billion euros in revenue. It sells broadband internet, mobile, and a variety of business services. And it operates an underwater cable network that runs 445,000 kilometers.

Speaking of wide area networks, in March Orange Business Services announced that it has strengthened its hybrid network offering with software-defined WAN technology from partner Riverbed (News - Alert) Technology. “With the launch of our SD-WAN solution, SteelConnect, integrated into Orange’s hybrid network portfolio, Orange and Riverbed continue their journey of co-development aimed at rapidly introducing new services to the market in response to customers’ changing needs as they move more apps and services to the cloud,” said Phil Harris, senior vice president and General Manager, Service Provider Vertical at Riverbed, in a March press release.
