Junction Networks Intros 'Pay-as-you-go' Hosted VoIP PBX for SMBs

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

Hosted VoIP solutions provider Junction Networks (News - Alert) this fall launched its new onSIP hosted PBX for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The company launched its new solution by highlighting the pricing model used as one that stands out from competitive products.

Most hosted PBX solutions are sold in features-heavy bundles with users billed up to $40 per line per month. Junction Networks decided instead to offer onSIP on a pay-as-you-go, (rather than fee per seat) basis. One flat rate of $39.95 covers the entire package, with no per-seat fees. The company charges only for off-network voice minutes usage.

By usage, Junction Networks means calls to non-IP, “off network” phones and faxes. And, even though such calls cost extra, they’re offered at very competitive rates when compared to switched-network carriers. Further, all phones hooked up to the onSIP PBX (News - Alert) (at one location or many) are configured as extensions of a single calling group, so inter-company calls are free.

In addition to the basic features included with onSIP, Junction Networks offers a variety of advanced features (e.g. auto attendant, dial-by-name directory, hunt/ring groups and call routing) on an a la carte basis, so SMBs pay only for what they need.

An added benefit of onSIPs extension structure and flat rate pricing is that companies can add seldom-used extensions (for example, in a lobby or a conference room) without paying extra. Adding and dropping extensions is so easy, in fact, that lines can be assigned for short durations to temporary employees or consultants without increasing costs.

Junction Networks’ use of open standards (e.g. SIP) and its carefully thought-out design of the platform, delivers a new level of flexibility and control for SMBs. The onSIP hosted VoIP PBX can be easily administered in-house by IT staff using a Web-based interface for setting up extensions, purchasing 10-digit phone numbers for receiving PSTN calls, and performing other administrative tasks.

“To understand what onSIP brings to small to medium businesses, start with the outsourcing convenience and low capex of Centrex, explained Junction Networks president Robert Wolpov. “Add in the economy and location-independence of voice over IP. Now add the still greater economy, scalability, flexibility and integration potential of open-source. With that third piece, we level the playing field between large-enterprise and SMB telecom.”
