VoIP Migration Company Citel Makes Changes at the Top

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

VoIP migration company Citel announced Friday that it appointed Clyde Heintzelman to the post of chairman of its board of directors. Heintzelman will replace Jonathan Watts, who is stepping down from the board. The company also announced the appointment of Michael Burke as senior vice president of sales and marketing, which is a new position.

Heintzelman joins Citel with more than 35 years of active board and management experience in the telecommunications industry under his belt. Most recently, he served as a board member for Optelecom, a fiber optics component manufacturer. Prior to this, Heintzelman held board and senior management positions with Bell Atlantic, SAVVIS, and DIGEX.

“Given the scope of the market opportunity Citel has in working with the U.S. telecom carriers, the board unanimously agreed that the company's interest would be served best by having a chairman in the U.S. with strong ties into the carrier industry,” Citel's CEO, Michael Robinson, said in a statement.

Robinson continued: “Clyde is a well-known figure in the U.S. telecom industry, and we are very pleased to have secured his services. We expect he will be instrumental in our efforts to further strengthen our relationships with the major carriers, as he is well connected with many of the management teams running these companies and has extensive operating experience in this arena. We thank Jonathan for his service and wish him well with his future endeavors.”

According to Citel’s news release, via his new post as senior vice president of sales and marketing, Michael Burke will help develop the company's global sales and marketing efforts and its partnerships. Burke joins Citel with more than 20 years experience in the technology telecom industry. Previously, the executive held sales management positions at Equant Network Services, Rolm, China Telecom, Bell Canada/Teleglobe, and Sprint (News - Alert) International.

“I am very pleased to be joining the team,” Burke said of his appointment, in a statement. “Citel’s proven technology in the rapidly expanding VoIP services marketplace offers clear business value to its customers. I look forward to contributing to the rapid growth and expansion of Citel as it continues to prove the effectiveness and value of its offering.”

Today’s news follows Citel’s announcement about it introducing its SIP trunking voice system, which utilizes the company's Citel EXTender product suite. The system enables distributed enterprises to replace branch office local circuits and connect directly to a centralized PBX, via a SIP trunking service provider.

Citel’s SIP trunking voice system includes Citel's PBXgateway (I or II) at the central PBX (News - Alert) site, and Citel EXTender 4100, 6000, IP6000, or 7000 at remote locations.
