Hosted Exchange Anti-Spam Feature: 123Together.com Introduces Spam Filtering Services with Exchange Hosting

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

As more and more businesses use e-mail as their preferred form of communication, they are well aware of the potentially detrimental impact viruses, spam, spyware and other threats can pose to their day-to-day operations.

More than 97 percent of e-mail messages sent over the Internet are unwanted. According to the Microsoft (News - Alert) Security Intelligence Report Volume 6, unwanted messages are typically phishing attacks, or are spam. While many computer users can easily identify spam, which often contain cryptic subject lines or catchy-sounding advertisements, businesses still need protection from more insidious threats which are less visible.

For example, a recent survey by the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group, also known as MAAWG, found that nearly one-third of consumers admitted to responding to a message they suspected might be spam. In addition, about 80 percent of users said they doubted their computers were at risk of being infected with a "bot," which is a covertly planted virus capable of sending spam, or causing other damage without the owner's knowledge. Unfortunately, they are mistaken.

Spam makes up 85 percent of all e-mail traffic, and 93 percent of businesses are infiltrated by viruses and worms. That’s why 123Together.com, a provider of hosted business services, is offering its customers MX Logic Premium Spam Filtering and MX Logic Disaster Recovery Services.

The Burlington, Mass-based company’s MX Logic Premium Spam Filtering Service is a multi-layered e-mail protection service that includes spam filtering and analysis, fraud protection, and the filtering of unwelcome and potentially malicious content for inbound e-mail. The solution blocks 99 percent of all spam and identifies harmful e-mail and attachments before they reach users.

The service, which masks users’ e-mail infrastructure from incoming e-mail attacks and other assaults on internal systems, is available to businesses of all sizes for a small monthly per user fee, company officials said.

Meanwhile, 123Together.com’s (News - Alert) MX Logic Disaster Recovery Service protects business communications from a range of catastrophes, including natural disasters, power outages, equipment malfunction, and employee error.  In the event of a natural disaster, electrical outage, or network failure, the service monitors and stores all incoming and outbound e-mail in a secure, external site until the issue is resolved. Around-the-clock web-based access enables users to remain in constant communication during this time and all e-mails are automatically synched with their  sent, received and deleted folders once network connectivity has been restored, officials said.

The spam filtering services require 123Together.com’s hosted Exchange e-mail service. A comparison of the two services is available here.
123Together.com is offering a 30-day, no obligation trial of its MX Logic Premium Spam Filtering and MX Logic Disaster Recovery Services on its Web site.
