5 Must-Have Accessories for Your Headsets

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Headsets play an important role in professional communications today. The productivity enhancements achieved from having hands-free capabilities have skyrocketed the popularity.

In the call center and other businesses where heavy telephone communications occur, the usage of headsets is important not just for clear communication, but for comfort and health reasons as well.

To ensure this occurs headsets must be chosen carefully to fit every workers needs. How does one accomplish such a daunting task when there are hundreds, even thousands, of different heads to outfit?

A more personalized headset is easier to obtain than you may think…

Headsets provider Sennheiser offers a unique approach to headset customization that harks back to their line of award winning headphones and microphones: modular design and user-exchangeable parts.

For example, the top selling SH 330 can be worn in 10 different ways without having to touch a single tool or spend more than a few seconds at your desk. That’s right—any single-sided Sennheiser headset, such as the SH 330, has a detachable headband (left or right placement) which can be replaced with an optional neckband (left placement) or ear-clip (left or right). The headset user can then use a foam or leatherette ear cushion on the earpiece to further enhance the fit for a total of 10 different, comfortable combinations.

Below is a list of some available accessories and the benefits:

Ear cushions – The cornerstone of comfort. Sennheiser offers an acoustic foam or leatherette cushion for increased noise reduction. The acoustic foam ear cushions were developed specifically to provide cushy comfort without blocking frequencies critical to speech intelligibility.

Neckbands/Headbands/Ear-clips – The “support” system for the headset. A neckband or bendable ear-clip system help women with longer or curly hair or when a user has on a hat or a traditional headband can be chosen for a stable, classic feel.

Clothing Clips – Agents who file and reach for things several times during a call are prone to cable-tangles. Clothing clips eliminate tangles and snags to keep the work area neat and clean. Each Sennheiser contact center headset comes with an ergonomic clothing clip.

Windscreens – A windscreen is the first line of defense against plosive speech and food. The PS 01 windscreen, included in every headset, is disposable and consists of similar interference-free acoustic foam used in the ear cushions.

Interfaces - Another popular customization choice is an interface, often referred to as an amplifier or “amp”. Choices like the UI760, which offers connection to a PC, advanced volume boosting /management, call recording, call clarity and headset/handset switching, are available to make call handling simple and efficient.

And Sennheiser didn’t forget about the wireless users either. Customizing a wireless headset like the BW 900 also means the ability to add accessories like a spare battery for serviceable, infinite talk time via hot-swap or a travel kit for remote charging of a spare battery, to use the BW 900 in a car. A lifter can also be purchased for this wireless headset to allow for remote answer/ termination of calls.

Whatever the accessory, choosing options to make using the headset a more enjoyable and productive will reap great benefits for the user and their employer.
