Videoconferencing has changed the face of communications by removing the barriers of distance and cost and providing an efficient way to communicate with colleagues, family members and friends regardless of where they are located in the world.

With just an internet connection and video conferencing equipment, communications that are life-like are possible, with out the need to be physically located in the same room. And as broadband connections become more and more available across the world, it is becoming easier to communicate with just about anyone.

With HD Videoconferencing, communications are enhanced even further to bring high- quality sound and life-like visuals to communications.

And while reuniting with family members from the old country, or conducting business meetings without the need for costly travel are notable achievements of the technology, a historical event occurred today thanks to the capabilities of HD Videoconferencing that opens to door to dynamic change and possibilities.

Today's historical event, made possible via a partnership between The Institute for the Study of Israel in the Middle East (ISIME) at the University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies, and RJ Macklin Associates, who have chosen HD Videoconferencing capabilities from LifeSize and Codian (News - Alert), will bring together, for the first time, Israeli and Iraqi Teens for a high definition video conference peace summit.

The event,  'Building Bridges for Peace HD Videoconference,' is an opportunity for the youth of the long feuding countries to communicate respectfully and understand as well as ask questions that open dialogue between teens representing a mix of Muslim, Christian, Arab and  Jewish backgrounds.

The summit will utilize Lifesize Room and a Codian MCU 4500 Series conferencing bridge as well as the Codian IP-VCR video conference recorder- providing the ability to record the video conference session, and view the content in the future.

LifeSize room helps users communicate more clearly and effectively and according to a news release can handle high definition video at 1Mbps, DVD quality at 512kbps and Cable TV quality at 384kbps.

The Codian MCU 4500 Series provides users with crystal clear, full motion video on every port and supports high video resolutions, speeds and codecs for high definition endpoints.

Commenting on the ability for HD Videoconferencing technology to take communications to new lengths, David Holloway, CEO of Codian said in a statement to the press, "This historic event shows how communications technology, when thoughtfully and creatively applied, can help break down barriers that have existed for generations. We see limitless potential for high-definition video to foster better understanding among countries, their peoples, and their cultures."

Craig Malloy, CEO of LifeSize Communications (News - Alert) also commented, "Today's event demonstrates that video communications is more than just a business application. It can be used as an enabler for bringing people of different countries and cultures closer together in a meaningful way."
