The winners of the Interop (News - Alert) competition have been announced and HD Video Conferencing provider Vidyo, has won the startup category.
This company, which just began shipping its videoconferencing-over-IP system in March, promises to make low-cost, HD video conferencing an option for more companies throughout the world.
Last week, Information Week and Interop held the 2008 Best of Interop Awards.
Just two years into its development, Vidyo (News - Alert) announced its HD video conferencing suite back in January, unveiling its capabilities at the Demo conference.
The total line offers a video conferencing router, desktop client, portal, gateway and room system. March shipments began on the router, client and portal, while the gateway and room system are still in beta testing and are due for general availability in May.
The finalists for the 2008 Best of Interop Awards were hand-selected by a panel of InformationWeek expert judges. Each year, Best of Interop winners prove to be the key players in the continuing evolution of business technology.
"With the increase in exhibitors this year, competition was especially tough for the Best of Interop Awards," said Lenny Heymann, Interop General Manager, in an Interop statement.
Using scalable video coding, or SVC, Vidyo delivers high-definition video streaming over general-purpose IP networks. The VidyoRouter allows for adaptation to available bandwidth and sends end points only as many packets as they are capable of handling throughout a video session.
An advantage to the system is its ability to be easily extended to workers in a branch and home offices. This capability means Vidyo’s system should be able to find regular and widespread use in a company.
To better help to advance Vidyo’s acceptance and adoption throughout multiple industries, Cisco (News - Alert) is licensing its technology for use in its Unified Communications desktop products.
Vidyo has been busy with signing resellers in Europe and the U.S. Those organizations that are considering the technology include financial firms, consulting companies, government agencies and universities.
The demand for HD video conferencing continues to grow and this latest recognition for Vidyo, in addition to the Cisco licensing, should position the company for strong initial growth to quickly gain a competitive edge in the market.
