Meru Networks (News - Alert) has announced what it says is the industry’s first video over wireless LAN (WLAN) partner program. The Meru Video Unplugged Program provides interoperability testing, best practices, and certification of multi-vendor video products for end users who want to deploy and leverage video solutions for conferencing, streaming, and surveillance over enterprise wireless networks.

Thanks to Video Unplugged, customers can access best-of-breed wireless video solutions from partnering companies, complete with the assurance that these solutions can be deployed easily and cost effectively, are fully interoperable and secure, and deliver reliable QoS. Meru Networks explains that partner companies offer complementary products including video applications, devices, infrastructure solutions, and management software.

LifeSize, a provider of high-definition video communications, and Video Furnace, a provider of enterprise-class, mission-critical secure video distribution, are the inaugural members of this Program. According to Meru, through the video over wireless LAN (WLAN) partner program, it will collaborate with partners to conduct interoperability tests, share equipment between labs, hold customer trials, and develop testing documentation and configuration guides for customers. The program will also enable joint marketing activities and cross-training of sales teams across solutions.

Howard Weinzimmer, CEO of Video Furnace said that, in the enterprise, the shift toward accessing mission-critical applications wirelessly is gaining momentum, as is the demand for next-generation applications such as video.

“Being able to deliver the full breadth of our multicast and unicast video capabilities finally makes convergence over a wireless infrastructure a reality,” said Weinzimmer in a statement.

Craig Malloy, CEO, LifeSize added that Meru provides both high bandwidth and advanced QoS to ensure a quality high definition experience over wireless LANs. He looks forward to working with Meru to make wireless telepresence a reality.

Meru’s 4th generation Mobile Scale WLAN platform can securely deliver real-time applications, such as video and voice, with high reliability and quality of service. Due to the simplicity of Meru’s single channel architecture, enterprises can easily deploy and manage a high performance network running multiple video applications.

Jim Ciociolo, vice president of business development for Meru Networks explains that Meru’s customers are increasingly using their wireless networks strategically as the primary network for connectivity and accessing critical applications such as video.

He noted that, through the new Meru Video Unplugged Program, Meru and its partners simplify the purchase and deployment process for customers looking for complete, easy–to-deploy, reliable, and secure video over WLAN solutions.
