Vidyo (News - Alert), Inc. today announced that it is continuing its relationship with Google to enhance the video quality within WebRTC.
As Google introduced its first videoconferencing hardware recently, it also launched software with partner Vidyo that can bring together employees in video meeting room and users of Google (News - Alert)+ Hangouts.
The software, called VidyoH2O for Google+ Hangouts, is the first product that has come out of long-term business relationship between Google and Vidyo. Both the companies offer quality Web browser-based video meetings products.
According to Vidyo, the new VidyoH2O is more than just a video conferencing solution. Vidyo has created a “switchboard” video conferencing service which translates Hangouts language to the language of legacy, corporate systems. So, it enables Google Hangouts users to connect with users of legacy systems, and even lets employees dial in audio-only remotely through their company’s IP-PBX.
Ofer Shapiro (News - Alert), co-founder and CEO of Vidyo said in a statement, “VidyoH2O for Google+ Hangouts is the first of an expected series of innovative solutions resulting from this WebRTC collaboration with Google. This is another example of how Vidyo is driving the convergence of consumer and enterprise solutions.”
The enterprise customers can install VidyoH2O for Google Hangouts two ways and they can subscribe to the cloud service or they can take an on-premises solution. Interestingly, Vidyo’s technology is very compatible and it doesn’t require you to upgrade your networking, which will cost a multiple on the video conferencing system.
Roopam Jain, Principal Analyst at Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert), said, “It will be exciting to see what further developments stem from this WebRTC relationship between Google and Vidyo. Vidyo continues to be at the forefront of driving innovation in the video communications market.”
Both the companies are working to include Vidyo’s SVC technology in VP9 and client software in Chrome. VidyoH2O for Google+ Hangouts is scheduled for general availability on March 31, 2014 with basic subscription of $99/per month.
