Patton Electronics Exec Discusses VoIP Market Challenges and Strategies (Part 2)

By Marisa Torrieri

With Halloween around the corner, businesses are looking toward the fourth quarter – and what’s next in the world of communications. With the economy stabilizing, the future may seem less “scary,” but still, a number of challenges lie ahead for VoIP players.

As we speak, Patton (News - Alert) Electronics is in the middle of “a massive thrust” for VoIP gateways in the U.S. market. The company is engaging its channel partners for a fourth-quarter marketing campaign focused on PRI gateways for SIP trunk solutions as well as analog FXS gateways for MTU/MDU solutions.

To do this successfully, Patton has had to focus on the challenges that lie ahead in VoIP, like delivering high-tech solutions at a low cost.

In the second part of his interview with TMCnet, Glendon Flowers, product marketing manager for Gaithersburg, Md.-based Patton Electronics, spoke about planning for the future.

Our full exchange follows.

TMCnet: What are some of the emerging trends you see in the VoIP market, going into 2010?
GF: It’s less about toll bypass and more about the user experience. Rich features in the products that make life easier, faster and more productive for people. Check out the story on what we did for Song Phat. It’s all about value added capabilities in the overall solution. For quality and feature richness at a reasonable price, SmartNode beats every other brand. Watch for the SmartNode VoIP brand to ascend in the North American market. It already rules in Europe.

TMCnet: What are some of the challenges that lie ahead?
GF: Getting the word out about Patton’s new mobile video surveillance and awareness solutions to the right organizations. We’ve got the next big thing that’s going to create its own market. It’s called Visuality and we’re getting ready for a major marketing launch. The challenge is going to be keeping up with the demand and adjusting to the changes as our organization rapidly expands.

TMCnet: What is Patton doing to deal with those challenges?
GF: We’re gearing up for the anticipated swelling volume. Recruiting, streamlining and tweaking everything on a constant basis while delivering the best products out there at a surprisingly low cost.

Check out Part 1 of our interview with Glendon Flowers, which focuses on more of what Patton is doing in the VoIP market.
