SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud Offering Arrives in Johannesburg

Enterprise cloud operations are spreading like wildfire as companies realize the value in such a deployment. Access to a variety of major functions without the need to maintain infrastructure can be huge in terms of cost savings while requiring little modification to the day-to-day operation. This has in turn given rise to a host of new cloud services, and a new partnership effort between SAP (News - Alert) Africa and Dimension Data has brought a new option for such services to Johannesburg in the form of an SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service.

The SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service offers several real-time technology options backed up by the in-memory SAP HANA platform, and puts it all available for use on a consumption-based model, allowing users to operate on something like a pay-as-you-go basis. This ensures the best in scalability and gives its users a lot more flexibility.

The Johannesburg launch is just the latest in a growing string of successful launches, in places like Canada and the United States, as well as Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Japan and Australia. The service was launched partially in response to issues being seen in hosting data off-shore, a development that's left more than a few countries nervous. Since the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud system also meets several countries' regulatory requirements, it works well for both public and private sector operations and broadens its own market reach accordingly.

SAP Africa's managing director Brett Parker commented “Almost a quarter of local small enterprises already use some type of cloud service, highlighting the growing need for the cost-efficiency and flexibility that only the cloud provides.”

This isn't the first we've seen of SAP HANA expansions, and it likely won't be the last. There are too many benefits to an enterprise cloud system for it to fade away like some outdated fad, and with a clear concern growing around issues of data sovereignty in the face of things like the Edward Snowden affair of a couple of years ago, enterprise cloud systems that operate locally should continue to draw demand. Improved agility and responsiveness to changing market conditions, improved collaboration, better communications and support of a mobile workforce all contribute to demand, and the general growth of technology operations in Africa also makes SAP HANA a prime candidate for growth in the field.

The market seems to want enterprise cloud options in a big way, and that should give SAP HANA systems plenty of room to run in the field. Competitors are likely already pushing at the edges of the market, but they will find a fight on their hands with an entrenched rival in SAP HANA.
