DIDX, snom and pbxnsip Team to Provide Interoperability in Services

In an extended effort to bring International DID capability to the wider VoIP market, DIDX has teamed with pbxnsip and snom technology AG (News - Alert) to provide interoperability testing between the three companies' products and services.
 
In a joint effort that was completed in less than 24 hours, the trio managed to demonstrate the relative ease in which testing and certification can be completed.
 
“This testing and certification shows the ease of use and interoperability between standards-based SIP components and how service providers can quickly provision and deploy DID/DDI services worldwide,” said Paul Jamieson, director of Sales at pbxnsip (News - Alert), a provider of VoIP applications for ITSPs, call centers, telephony, and hospitality.
 
The test bed included DIDX DID's from the U.K. and U.S., the new 820 color snom  IP handset (check out TMCnet’s article about the phone here) and pbxnsip middleware (SIP based IP-PABX version). The pbxnsip PBX (News - Alert) is used to add components from different vendors together to form a complete communication system.

Now, customers benefit from a modern feature set like mobility support, computer telephony integration and vendor independence. Customers may also run the PBX on Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows, Mac OS, and Linux-based servers as well as in embedded appliances such as the pbxnsip CS410.
 
"The DIDs were directed to the pbxnsip server located at the snom offices in the U.S. where they hit the Auto attendant and then to a direct extension,” said Paul Deane, a member of the DIDX team.
 
While direct inward dialing (DID) numbers are designed to assist wholesale service providers of VoIP communications to connect to the PSTN, this type of interoperability allows DIDX to also cast a wider net bringing with it the potential ability to connect SIP, instant messengers and social community portals.

These DID numbers from the PSTN networks are made available through VoIP network providers and are assigned to a gateway in a VoIP network. The gateway can route calls that are incoming from PSTN over an IP network (normally using SIP and/or IAX2 signaling protocols) to the intended VoIP end-user.
 
Of course, the testing did not get off without a bit of tech fun, according to Deane.
 
“Andy Yip of snom was very surprised to get a call to a never before used extension via a U.K phone number though he is in the U.S.,” said Deane of DIDX. “And to top that, while handling another support call"

Joking aside, says Deane,  "Now, VoIP businesses and their clients have some great options for maximizing telecommunications: pbxnsip for VoIP application, snom IP phones, and DIDX DIDs. The invitation is open to soft switch providers to complete interconnect and interop with DIDX."

Recently the SIP-based IP PBX software player pbxnsip extended its interoperability partnership with VegaStream in an effort to extend the reach and usefulness of each company’s respective products.
