Latin American cable operator NET Serviços recently decided to automate the provisioning of its data services. The company, which is based in Brazil, sought a flexible device provisioning solution for communicating with its operational and business systems.
The company found what it was looking for in Incognito Software’s Broadband Command Center. Aside from the merits of the solution itself, NET (News - Alert) Serviços picked Command Center because it is offered by Incognito, a company that was established in 1992 and has a proven track record of reliability, strong support for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP, used for querying and modifying TCP/IP directory services), an ongoing commitment to having its products support new technologies in the cable world and customization for its customers.
In fact, that last point was especially key: Incognito customized its provisioning software to meet NET’s needs, tailoring it to read from the provider’s LDAP database in real time.
After successfully testing the system in outlying municipal areas, NET moved ahead and fully integrated its database of more than 1.6 million subscribers with Incognito’s solution.
“The migration went smoothly and without any service disruptions to our customers,” said Marcelo Parraga, infrastructure director at NET.
“When dealing with a large MSO such as NET, the ability to customize is key to a successful working relationship,” said Stephane Bourque, founder and CTO of Incognito. “We will continue working to provide NET with the added flexibility needed to implement creative new services for its customers.”
NET Serviços is the largest cable operator in Latin America. It serves 79 cities and more than nine million resident in Brazil with TV, broadband Internet and telephony — all delivered using one cable. The company holds 46.3 percent of the pay TV market in Brazil, and 17.5 percent of the broadband market. Its customer base, according to first quarter 2008 results, is divided into 2.6 million pay TV, 1.6 million broadband and 718,000 fixed telephony line subscribers.
Incognito provides subscriber edge device provisioning and network resource management solutions to broadband operators and enterprises worldwide.
