British Airways and OnAir Introduces First Airline Mobile Portal

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

The full service airline British Airways and the in-flight connectivity specialist OnAir have revealed the launch of Club Mobile services, the world's first in-flight mobile portal. This portal is for the exclusive use of passengers of British Airway aircraft who are traveling along the airline's London-New York route.

The debut of this exclusive service marks a new era in terms of the services passengers can enjoy as they fly, as well as what they can expect from a constant connection along their travel route.
This includes services and information that are tailor-fit to passengers, their journey, and the destination to which they are headed. Through using Mobile OnAir's inflight services, passengers can be able to access travel-focused information such as weather forecasts at their destination, possible traffic snarl-ups that may await them up on arrival, scores and goings-on at local sports events, and local events that they may wish to see or participate in. In addition, they may also access key services that they may require upon arrival, including transportation and lodging, concierge services, and guides for local events.
In addition, using the online services Club Mobile offers is simple and intuitive. Since these services are web-based, passengers need not install any software. They simply need to activate their mobile phones or other such devices. Those who do so will receive text messages with direct links in order to gain access to the portal.
OnAir CEO Ian Dawkins said that the company was very happy to be working with British Airways on this groundbreaking online service. He said that it was a service that was nothing if not a necessity. Being able to stay up to date on key information regarding destinations via this portal is very helpful to ensure that passengers can make the best use of their time possible while in flight.
In related news, Ontier, a provider of Pixetell, all-in-one communications software used to send personalized video messages, announced a major upgrade to its communications network to deliver video messages to mobile phones and social media.
