When it comes to conferencing services, audio conferencing is still king. The technology is helping companies transform the way they do business with its ability to connect people at a moment’s notice and help firms save on travel costs.

 

“The money is being made in audio,” Greg Plum (News - Alert), director of product development for The Conference Group, a provider of Web, audio and video conferencing services, told TMCnet in a podcast. “It’s been that way for the last 10 years. It’s still that way.”

 

The technology is steadily growing. And as a result, the dynamic is constantly changing as more and more new companies are introduced and larger companies buy smaller firms, he said. 

 

One recent example is Logitech International’s recent acquisition of LifeSize Communications a provider of high definition video communication solutions.The Switzerland-based provider of PC video communication technology said the purchase, which was slated to close in December, would help it expand its PC video business beyond the desktop with HD video conferencing.

 

Such a move shows the value businesses are placing in the conferencing services sector, Plum said at the time.

 

“It just shows how lucrative [the technology is],” Plum said. “It’s a wave that is coming.”
