By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Heritage Global Partners and Counsel RB Capital will be conducting a global webcast auction of surplus assets first held by Open Range Communications, a communications provider that filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on October 6, 2011.

Open Range Communications provided high-speed wireless Internet and digital phone access through WiMAX (News - Alert) technology. During its service period, the communications provider served communities in more than 12 states and in over 150 markets.

Led by auction industry pioneers Ross and Kirk Dove of Heritage Global Partners, the auction will be held on Wednesday, January 11 and Thursday, January 12, from 10 am MST through 5 pm MST via the webcast that will take place at www.hgpauction.com and in person at the company's headquarters in Greenwood Village, Colorado, a press release revealed.

The auction will feature the communications provider’s state-of-the-art networking, test equipment, IT equipment and office furnishings as well as more than 350 cell towers located throughout the United States.

"This auction is an opportunity for local or regional wireless telecom providers to purchase technologies and equipment to expand their services and better serve their customers," said David Weiss, VP of Heritage Global Partners, in a statement. "We are pleased to represent Open Range, and leverage our global webcast platform and vast experience in selling assets around the world."

In another communications provider industry development, TMCnet reported that MDU Communications (News - Alert) which offers DIRECTV and broadband services that cater to the multi-family marketplace recently expanded its broadband service offering. The company has begun rolling out and marketing this service to its existing portfolio of multi-family properties.

The enhanced service from the company has been created to provide significantly greater access speeds for residents to support high bandwidth capacity Internet-based services such as music and video downloading, movie and television streaming and gaming.
